Buildings we insulate

Pole Barn, Shop & Ag Building Insulation Across ND & MN

Farm and rural buildings get used in a lot of different ways. Tell us how you use yours, and we will recommend an approach that fits the building, the season and your budget.

Fiberglass insulation installed on tall interior walls

Pole Barns & Post-Frame

Whether you call it a pole barn or a pole building, closed-cell spray foam on the walls and roof seals the gaps between posts, girts and purlins and helps keep moisture from forming on the steel.

Fiberglass insulation installed inside metal building

Heated Shops

For shop insulation, spray foam on the walls and roof helps hold heat in through the winter, so your heater runs less and the space stays comfortable to work in.

Machine Sheds & Equipment Storage

Even in a cold building, a layer of spray foam on the roof helps stop condensation from dripping on tractors, combines, trucks and stored equipment.

Insulation contractor working inside arched steel building

Barns & Livestock Buildings

Spray foam helps moderate temperatures and control moisture in barns and animal housing, with an approach suited to the building and how it is ventilated.

Fargo insulation inside curved steel building

Steel & Metal Buildings

In steel buildings and metal pole buildings, spray foam bonds directly to the steel panels, which helps reduce condensation, dampen noise from rain and equipment, and add rigidity to the building.

Quonsets & Arch Buildings

We spray the full arch from the base to the peak, filling the corrugations and sealing the bolted seams where the panels overlap, so there are fewer spots for frost and condensation to form.

Spray foam insulation installed on metal ceiling panels

Roof Steel & Ceilings

Foam can go directly on the underside of the roof steel, or we can blow insulation over a finished ceiling. We will walk through which option fits your building.

Post-Frame Walls

Wall cavities between posts and girts are sprayed to fill the space completely, including corners, seams and fastener lines.

Planning your project

What to Think About Before You Insulate

A few details about your building help us recommend the right approach and give you an accurate quote.

Spray Foam or Fiberglass?

Spray foam is the go-to for most of the pole barns and shops we insulate. In some heated shops with a finished ceiling, blown-in fiberglass above the ceiling works well too. We will walk through which makes sense for your building.

Existing Insulation

If your building has old fiberglass batts or other insulation that is wet, sagging or damaged by pests, it needs to come out before new insulation goes in. We handle the removal and cleanup so you don't have to take on the mess.

How the Space Is/Will be Used

Livestock, equipment storage, a workshop or a mix of all three. Let us know how you use the building and whether you plan to heat it, and we will plan the insulation around that.

What We Need for a Quote

Building dimensions, wall height, whether it is heated, if there is a ceiling, and a few photos of the inside are a good start. We will follow up with any questions.

Common Questions About Insulating Pole Barns & Ag Buildings

Straight answers to the questions we hear most from farmers, ranchers and shop owners. See our full FAQ.

How much does it cost to spray foam a pole barn?

Cost depends on the size of the building, wall height, foam thickness, and whether you are insulating the walls, the roof or both. Because every building is different, we quote each project individually. Send us your building dimensions and a few photos and we will put together a free estimate.

It depends on how the building is used, if it’s heated or not, and the depth of the wall cavity. We will recommend a thickness based on your building and your goals.

Closed-cell spray foam applied directly to the steel acts as an air seal and a vapor barrier, which helps keep warm, moist air from reaching the cold steel where condensation forms. Ventilation and moisture sources inside the building also play a role, and we will talk through those with you.

In many cases, yes. If there is existing insulation or a vapor barrier that is torn, wet or damaged, it usually needs to come out first so the foam can bond to the steel. We handle insulation removal too, and we will let you know what makes sense for your building.

Yes, we work year-round. Spray foam has temperature requirements for proper application, so for cold-weather projects we plan around conditions and may need the building heated while we work which can incur additional costs for your project.

Yes. We insulate barns and animal buildings. Ventilation is an important part of any livestock building, so we will ask about your setup and how the building is used before recommending an approach.
